The Duo formed by Francesco Dillon (cello) and Emanuele Torquati (piano) is a union of two interpreters not only devoted to an open-minded exploration in the standard repertoire but also particularly sensitive to exploring neglected and hidden works. Moreover, both Francesco Dillon (Prometeo String Quartet and Alter Ego) and Emanuele Torquati are notable performers of New Music. As a Duo, they have worked closely with composers such as Jonathan Harvey and Kaija Saariaho and gave first performances of major works by Brett Dean, and Toshio Hosokawa.
They have played in several major festivals and musical centres in Europe and North America and their concerts have been broadcasted by Radio France, Swiss RSI, BBC Radio3, Euroradio, Italian National Radio and RTE Lyric. They recently toured the US (New York and Boston) and Argentina. In 2010, it was released a double CD with Schumann Transcriptions of vocal and piano music and in 2011 the complete recording of Liszt works on the Brilliant Classics label. In 2012, they accomplished their project on Schumann with a third CD, also including the rare version of J.S. Bach Cello Suite n.3 with Schumann’s piano accompaniment.
Il Duo formato da Francesco Dillon (violoncello) ed Emanuele Torquati (pianoforte) ha debuttato nel marzo 2007 al Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi di Milano. Dillon-Torquati si sono prodotti in numerosi concerti in Europa presso i piu’ importanti Festival cameristici e recentemente negli Stati Uniti (New York e Boston) con un tour sostenuto dalla Federazione CEMAT di Roma, ed in Argentina. Le loro esecuzioni live sono state trasmesse da emittenti quali Radio France, Radio Svizzera, BBC Radio3, Euroradio, Radio RAI3 e RTE Lyric.
Nel 2010 è uscito il doppio CD schumanniano comprendente le trascrizioni di Friedrich Wilhelm Grutzmacher, violoncellista dell’epoca e compagno di duo di Clara Wieck per Brilliant Classics. Sempre con quest’etichetta, nel 2011 è stata la volta dell’integrale dei lavori di Franz Liszt. Nel 2012 hanno completato il loro progetto discografico schumanniano con un terzo CD, che include anche la rarissima versione con accompagnamento scritto da Schumann per la Suite n. 3 per violoncello solo di J.S. Bach.
Il sodalizio e’ incentrato non solo sulla interpretazione dei maggiori lavori cameristici per questa formazione, ma anche alla ri-scoperta di perle dimenticate del repertorio. Inoltre, una particolare attenzione all’esecuzione di importanti opere contemporanee, come testimoniano svariate prime esecuzioni assolute ed il lavoro svolto con compositori, tra gli altri, del calibro di Jonathan Harvey, Kaija Saariaho, Toshio Hosokawa, Alessandro Solbiati.
