Piano Recitals in NYC, Kiev and Italy

Emanuele Torquati will perform six Piano Recitals from 1st May till 2nd June.

First concert will be on1st May in New York, Italian Academy at Columbia University, and follows the invitation to give a Recital for the E. Lorch Memorial. The program will feature Italian Music from Baroque to Contemporary, beside Beethoven’s Les Adieux.

After this thrilling program, Emanuele will present the cycle VOICES AND PIANO by Austrian composer Peter Ablinger, after successful performances in Argentina, for the Italian most prestigious Festival of New Music with Electronics, AngelicA Bologna on 16th May.

The week after (on 22nd) Emanuele will play for “Verso Traiettorie Festival”, which this year is completely devoted to music for piano solo, in the beautiful venue of Parma’s Casa della Musica.

Other two engagements (23rd and 30th), in Prato and Budrio, will follow before the one on 2nd June for ART ARSENAL Festival in Kiev (Ukraine), which will be the last of a very diverse and varied tour, including music by Michel Van der Aa, Jonathan Harvey, Ivan Fedele and Terry Riley.

14th Slowind Festival @ Slovenian Philarmonic

pintschersitting-on-bench-closeupandrea-medici-baci-and-baci-studio-nyny_Emanuele Torquati will take part in the 14th edition of SLOWIND FESTIVAL in Ljubljana, from next 13th-16th October.The Festival is devoted to Matthias Pintscher, composer and conductor and will take place in Slovenian Philarmonic Hall.

Programme includes a vast selection of Schumann chamber music and some important works of New music repertoire, from Boulez to Saariaho. Torquati will perform in 4 different concerts, on 13th Sur Incises by Pierre Boulez, under Matthias Pintscher, on 14th in a matinée devoted to Schumann and B.A. Zimmermann, and then in an evening concert with Schumann and 2 new works related to his music, on 15th will present Pintscher’s “Lieder und Schneebilder” with American soprano Marisol Montalvo.

Impuls Romantik @ Alte Oper Frankfurt

Emanuele Torquati has been invited from Alte Oper Frankfurt to premiere 3 Cycles of Lieder as part of the three year project “Impuls Romantik”. Three new pieces will be performed by him with soprano Marisol Montalvo and mezzo Jenny Carlstedt. Composers are American Jay Schwartz, Slovenian Nina Senk, and French-Canadian Samy Moussa. Jay Schwartz composed his “Music for voice and piano” on a poem by Henry David Thoreau, Nina Senk used some Sonnets from the Portoguese by Elizabeth Barrett Browning for “My Letters”, while Samy Moussa’s “Ahania’s Lament” is based on a poem by William Blake. These concerts are part of the “Auftakt Festival” 2012 and will take place on 8th September at 4 and 7 pm in Alte Oper’s Mozart Saal.

Duo Dillon-Torquati on Tour

Duo Dillon-Torquati is going to perform extensively in the first two months of the year.

Their engagements include 3 concerts in Pescara, Rome and Campobasso, with a program devoted to Franz Liszt (recently released for Brilliant Classics), Busoni, Bartòk and Strauss, including a premiere of Italian composer Mauro Cardi especially written for them.

After this first round of concerts, they’re going to present a second version of last year successful project “DISTANT VOICES, STILL LIVES”, at Area Sismica, Villa Romana and NY Musikk in Oslo. This new edition will include beside Brahms and Schumann Lieder, a world premiere by Argentinian composer Martin Bauer and German composer Carola Bauckholt, a new piece by emerging talent Daniele Ghisi, plus Peter Ablinger Voices and piano and Jacob TV piece for cello, piano and electronic based on Chet Baker’s last interview.

Emanuele Torquati in Buenos Aires @ CICLO DE CONCIERTOS de musica contemporanea

Emanuele Torquati will take part in South American biggest New Music Festival, CICLO DE CONCIERTOS DE MUSICA CONTEMPORANEA in Buenos Aires. The opening concert will be a Recital with a selection of Peter Ablinger’s extensive cycle VOICES AND PIANO (1998-). Special guest will be the composer himself, playing the electronics. Voices includes Hanna Schygulla, Jorge Luis Borges, Pierpaolo Pasolini and Marcel Duchamp, among others. The event will take place on 12th November at Teatro Colòn. READ CONCERT’S REVIEW HERE

Torquati will perform three times more at the Festival, giving the Argentinian premiere of Feldman’s Piano and String Quartet on 23rd Nov. with Prometeo String Quartet, performing the project “DISTANT VOICES, STILL LIVES” with cellist Francesco Dillon on 27th Nov., and finally taking part in the 18th hours marathon performance of Erik Satie VEXATIONS between 29th and 30th Nov.

Liszt Recital @ MITO Settembremusica

Following the recent release of his Liszt CD for Brilliant Classics, Emanuele Torquati will perform an all-Liszt Recital at MITO Settembremusica, featuring a wide selection from Second and Third Year of Années de Pèlerinage. Van der Aa TRANSIT Premiere @ Temporealefestival

On 12th October Emanuele Torquati will give the Italian premiere of TRANSIT (2009), a new piece for solo piano and film projection by Michel van der Aa, the Dutch composer and film-maker whose works such as the opera After Life incorporate both the theatrical and the cinematic. Transit brings together elements of his 2000 piano composition Just before with Passage, a short film he made at the New York Film Academy. The program, part of Temporeale Festival REWIND, includes Winter music by John Cage, performed with pianist Giancarlo Cardini.

Il concerto si svolgerà nella cornice della Limonaia di Villa Strozzi martedì 12 ottobre alle 21,30 e includerà musiche di John Cage e Giancarlo Cardini a 2 pianoforti.

Bach-Busoni Goldberg Variations – Festivaletteratura 2010

Emanuele Torquati will perform the rare Busoni Concert version of Bach Goldberg Variations on next 11th September, within Festivaletteratura 2010, most prestigious Literature’s happening in Italy.
It will be the premiere of a new project, created with dramatist Luca Scarlini, which is aimed to investigate the multiple segments of this keyboard masterwork, starting from a numerous series of literary and artistic sources.

Čajkovskij Tale@MITO Settembremusica

foto-ciaikovskyEmanuele Torquati will be on stage at MITO Settembremusica, the largest Italian Music Festival, on next 4th September, with a program focused on Pëtr Il’ič Čajkovskij (1840-1893). The project, created with narrator Luca Scarlini, is based on Nina Berberova well known Čajkovskij’s biography and intersperses music and words with images like in an old Russian fairy tale.

Duo Dillon-Torquati is going to give the premiere of LIED III by Toshio Hosokawa, on next 26th June within the Summer Festival of Walton Foundation. The program will include the Transcriptions of Schumann’s Lieder made by his friend, cellist Grutzmacher, part of next CD Release for Brilliant classics with Schumann rarities. On the 27th, the Duo is performing another program, with rare works by Herzogenberg, Liszt and Janacek.

Il Duo Dillon-Torquati, invitato al Festival estivo della Fondazione Walton, eseguira’ in prima assoluta LIED III di Toshio Hosokawa il prossimo 26 giugno. Il programma includera’ le Trascrizioni d’epoca dei Lieder di Schumann creata da F. W. Grutzmacher, cellista compagno di Duo di Clara Wieck. Questa rarita’ del repertorio cameristico fara’ parte della prossima pubblicazione del CD per l’etichetta Brilliant, assieme ad altre Trascrizioni di opere pianistiche e delle Sonate per violino. Il 27 giugno, il secondo programma eseguito dal Duo comprendera’ invece le rare Leggende op. 62 di Herzogenberg, le Due Elegie di Liszt e Pohadka di Leos Janacek.
